Appellation of origin

On May 30, 2007, the French High Court ruled the cancellation of the French trademark DOMAINE DU CHATEAU DES BARRIGARDS which had been registered as a wine appellation of origin by the son of the former owner of the domain property.

For the Court, only the owner of the domain « Château des Barrigards » could file a wine trademark including the property name, as he was the only one to warranty the harvesting and wine production in this place. This decision illustrates how cautiously the choice of a wine trademark must be made.
